Hanover/Essen, May 2008. The Barum brand portfolio includes the Bravuris 2, a genuine sports tyre, which is complemented by the Brillantis for cars with less powerful engines. The high mileage performance and economy of both tyres makes them impressive.

Barum Bravuris 2 - speed and economy for performance cars
The Bravuris 2 was relaunched last year and now boasts improved characteristics in all aspects versus its well-established predecessor. According to Lukas Kosmala, Product Manager for Barum's Summer Ultra High Performance Tyres, the developers focused primarily on increasing mileage performance by a remarkable 15 per cent. "This was achieved by using an entirely new contour, plus an innovative tread compound" he explained. "The new developments mean that the ground contact patch deforms less, thereby achieving slower, more even wear." Another conspicuous modification can be found on the tyre's outer shoulder, where the number of tread blocks has been substantially reduced; instead they were made more stable to accelerate transmission of the steering forces. As a result, the Bravuris 2 has an extremely neutral steering response and outstanding directional stability.
In contrast to the outer shoulder, the number of tread blocks on the inner shoulder has been increased, creating more lateral grooves through which the water can be rapidly discharged from the ground contact patch. "A distinct advantage when driving in the wet" according to Lukas Kosmala, "and an important step in reducing the risk of aquaplaning." Thanks to reinforced tread sipes, and the resulting even tread block stiffness and ground pressure distribution this brought about, the developers were also able to shorten the braking distance and improve grip on wet and dry roads.
The latest comparative test run by the German motoring magazine 'ADAC motorwelt' (issue 3/2008) rates the tyre in the size 195/65 R 15 V as 'recommended'.
The Bravuris 2 is approved for speeds of up to 300 km/h (187 mph). The tyre is available in 37 sizes from 15" to 20", with twenty-one of these sizes having been added this year. This means that the current size range extends from 195/65 R 15 V to the sporty 255/35 ZR 20 Y as an XL version. A further 29 sizes will be added in 2009.
The Barum Brillantis - high mileage performance for compact and medium range cars
One of the fundamental performance criteria of the Brillantis is its high mileage, with a reduced risk of aquaplaning plus reliable traction during acceleration and braking. "The tyre has an exceptionally flat belt contour, in line with the Barum Belt System, and uniform ground pressure distribution" said Petra Engels, Product Manager for Barum's compact summer tyres. "Furthermore there are sipes in the shoulder and central tread blocks. These design features ensure minimal deformation in the contact patch and even tread wear in the tyre centre and shoulder section."
Central grooves and two inner shoulder channels, combined with numerous lateral grooves, ensure reliable water dispersion, thereby reducing the risk of aquaplaning as well as shortening braking distances on wet road surfaces. Moreover, the many tread block edges and high tread stiffness mean precise transmission of forces during acceleration and braking.
The Brillantis was most recently tested by the TCS (Swiss Touring Club) in 2006 in the size 175/65 R 14 T and was rated as 'recommended'.
The Brillantis is approved for speeds of up to 210 km/h (131 mph). It is available in 34 sizes from 12" to 15". The current size range extends from 155/70 R 12 T to 195/65 R 15 T.
